At least two variations had already been expected – an Xperia Z4 and Z4 Ultra, with the former directly following from the Z3, and the Z4 Ultra as a new phablet to continue the original success of the Xperia Z Ultra.

However, a leaked advert from Sony (above) shows that a compact version may also be due to launch, with a dedicated amp to improve music quality further.

Until confirmation otherwise comes from Sony, it looks as though we can look forward to 3 individual Z4 models later this year – which would not be too surprising.

considering that Sony are now looking at a single release each year, rather than two different model lines (as they did with the Z2 and Z3 in 2014).

So far the rumoured specs for the individual phones look impressive, with these are the most quoted from online leaks:

Processor: 2.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 810

REM: 4GB

Graphics card: Adreno 430

Storage: 32 GB as standard (with a microSD for additional expansion)

The rear-facing camera will have a resolution of 20.7 MP, as with earlier Z1-Z3 models, but with an improved Exmor RS CMOS, 28mm F1.8 Sony G Lens, to allow for more light.

However, the front-facing camera is expected to be upgraded to a resolution 4.8 MP.

The current battery specs being touted are 3420mAh.

Processor: 2.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 810
Xperia Z4

which is a significant improvement on previous, despite that the Xperia Z range already have a pretty good battery life for a smartphone.

It’s the screen resolution sizes where the rumours start to veer.

Originally, the main Z4 model was rumoured to come in at 5.6 inches, then 5.5 – now they suggest the screen will come in at 5.4 inches.

The new Walkman variation appears to follow the recent compact line, coming in at around 4 inches, with a GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and a 2.3 S-Force PRO Front Surround Speaker.

The big question is whether the Z4 Ultra is still coming, which was suggested as having a 6.44 inche screen and a 15 MP camera.

However, rumours on that variant appear to have dried up for the time being, so we can only hope that it continues in development – the only thing that let down the Z Ultra was a the weak camera.
